New Zealand Chinese Association Winter CampNews Update2006 GUANGDONG WINTER CAMP AND CHINA TOURFollowing on from two successful tours in 2004 with 18 youths and 2005 with 40 youths, and media exposure in Asia Down Under and “The New Zealand Herald”, there was again keen interest in this year’s tour. The 2006 Guangdong Winter Camp and China tour will depart from Auckland on Saturday, 25 November 2006 and return to Auckland on Sunday, 24 December 2006 or Wednesday, 27 December 2006 for those staying longer in Hong Kong. Ms Janet Joe had kindly agreed to be the Tour Leader again on the understanding that the number of youths participating be limited to 20. Because airline seats and accommodation in Hong Kong are becoming increasingly difficult to confirm for the busy holiday season, Janet also requested that the closing date for applications be advanced to 1 June 2006. By the closing date, 22 youths had submitted applications and paid the $400 deposit. Rather than going through the difficult process of selecting two persons to be declined, Janet volunteered to take the two extra persons and is now starting to finalise the travel arrangements for the enlarged group. On 23 April 2006, I wrote a letter of thanks to Mr Lu Weixiong, General Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government for organising another successful programme for the 2005 Winter Camp and asked their assistance again in arranging visits to the ancestral villages for the 15 persons on the NZCA China Tour in May. In order to make accommodation arrangements easier and more economical, I have agreed to Janet’s latest proposal to accept 2 late applicants to bring the tour participants to 12 females and 12 males The 24 participants in the 2006 Guangdong Winter Camp and China Tour are now as follows:
