The New Zealand Chinese Association (Inc) wishes Meng Foon the Mayor of Gisborne - who has announced his retirement - all the best for the next stage in his journey. Meng has made a strong contribution not only to the city of Gisborne and the region, but also to the work and initiatives of the New Zealand Chinese Association.
Meng served as National President between 2015-2018 offering valuable leadership and wise governance. Meng's fluency in Te Reo Maori has been invaluable in enhancing the connections that the New Zealand Chinese community has with the Tangata Whenua, guiding the NZCA towards a closer relationship with iwi – especially in the Far North. We thank Meng for his leadership and ‘can do’ attitude.
